Physical modelling to remove hydrological effects at local and regional scale: application to the 100-m hydrostatic inclinometer in Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines (France)

چکیده
New inclinometers devoted to hydrological studies were set up in the Vosges Mountains (France). Two orthogonal 100-meter base hydrostatic inclinometers were installed in December 2004 as well as a hydrometeorological monitoring system for the 100-km2 hydrological unit around the inclinometer. As inclinometers are very sensitive to environmental influences, this observatory is a test site to confront hydrological modelling and geodetic observations. Physical modelling to remove hydrological effects without calibrating on geodetic data is tested on these instruments. Specifically, two deformation processes are most important: fluid pressure variations in nearby hydraulically active fractures and surface loading at regional scale.

We investigate the deformation induced by water pressure variations in hydrologicallyactive natural fractures, and recorded by tiltmeters and strainmeters. The deformation associated with a single fracture is derived using finite-element modeling (FEM). A range in fracture geometries is explored, first to highlight the sensitivity of each geometrical parameter to the deformation, and secondly t...
متن کاملA simple form of MT impedance tensor analysis to simplify its decomposition to remove the effects of near surface small-scale 3-D conductivity structures
Magnetotelluric (MT) is a natural electromagnetic (EM) technique which is used for geothermal, petroleum, geotechnical, groundwater and mineral exploration. MT is also routinely used for mapping of deep subsurface structures. In this method, the measured regional complex impedance tensor (Z) is substantially distorted by any topographical feature or small-scale near-surface, three-dimensional (...
متن کاملModelling of the kaolin deposits and reserve classification challenges of Charentes Basin, France
The kaolinitic clays have been exploited for more than a hundred years, in the western part of the Charentes Basin, France, and belong to a paleo-deltaic network. The recent deposits are relatively richer in alumina in comparison with the older ones. The genesis of the kaolin deposits of the Charentes Basin follows simple geological rules, but their detailed geometry has a great complexity, rei...
متن کاملNumerical modelling of the underground roadways in coal mines– uncertainties caused by use of empirical-based downgrading methods and in situ stresses
Numerical modelling techniques are not new for mining industry and civil engineering projects anymore. These techniques have been widely used for rock engineering problems such as stability analysis and support design of roadways and tunnels, caving and subsidence prediction, and stability analysis of rock slopes. Despite the significant advancement in the computational mechanics and availabili...
متن کاملApplication of Probabilistic Clustering Algorithms to Determine Mineralization Areas in Regional-Scale Exploration Studies
In this work, we aim to identify the mineralization areas for the next exploration phases. Thus, the probabilistic clustering algorithms due to the use of appropriate measures, the possibility of working with datasets with missing values, and the lack of trapping in local optimal are used to determine the multi-element geochemical anomalies. Four probabilistic clustering algorithms, namely PHC,...
